Found for the right searches

1Is your primary category the closest match to your main service?

It's the first category listed when you edit your profile.

2Do your additional categories cover your other main services?

Only services you actually offer.

3Does your services list include everything you want to be found for?

Edit profile, then Services.

4Does your description say what you do, where you work and who you work for?

The "From the business" text on your profile.

5Do your service areas, or your address, match where you really work?

Service businesses without a shopfront can hide their address and list service areas instead.

6Does the page your profile links to talk about the same services and areas?

Open the website link on your profile and read the page it lands on.

Accurate and trustworthy

7Does your business name match your signage and website, with no added keywords?

For example "Smith Plumbing", not "Smith Plumbing Emergency Plumber Brisbane".

8Is the phone number right, and answered during business hours?

Call it from another phone to check.

9Does the website link work and go to your most relevant page?

Tap it on your phone and check where it lands.

10Are your regular opening hours correct?

Compare them with when you actually answer the phone or open.

11Have you set special hours for upcoming public holidays and closures?

Edit profile, then Hours, then Special hours.

12Do your name, address and phone match on your website, Facebook and directory listings?

Check your website footer, Facebook page and any directories you're listed in.

13Is there only one Google listing for your business, with no duplicates or old listings?

Search your business name and phone number on Google Maps.

Looks active and complete

14Does your profile have at least 10 photos of your real work, team or vehicles?

Count the photos you've added, not the ones customers have.

15Have you added a new photo in the last 30 days?

The newest photos show first in your photo list.

16Have you filled in the attributes that apply to your business?

Attributes are the extra details Google asks about, such as accessibility or payment options.

17Is your profile free of "complete your profile" prompts from Google?

View your profile while signed in and look for suggestions to add missing details.

Reviews

18How does your review count compare with the top three businesses shown for your main search?

Search your main service and suburb on Google Maps in a private window, then compare with the first three businesses.

19When was your most recent Google review?

Sort your reviews by newest.

20Have you replied to your reviews from the last 90 days?

A short, personal thank-you is enough.

21Does every negative review have a calm, polite reply from you?

Check any review of 3 stars or fewer.

How it's worked out

Each answer earns points on a 100-point checklist BuzzBrain put together from common profile problems. It's our diagnostic score, not a Google score, and Google doesn't endorse it.

  1. Found for the right searches25 points: categories, services, description, service areas and the page you link to
  2. Accurate and trustworthy28 points: name, phone, website link, hours, special hours, consistency and duplicates
  3. Looks active and complete14 points: photos, recent photos, attributes and Google's own prompts
  4. Reviews33 points: review count against your top three local competitors, recency, replies and negative reviews
  5. AnswersYes earns full points, Partly earns half, No earns none. Not sure earns none and is listed to check
  6. Order of fixesPoints missed × how directly the problem affects customers, so wrong hours or phone numbers come before polish

Star rating isn't scored. It isn't fully in your control, and chasing it can lead to the wrong fixes.

Worked example

A plumbing business works through the questions. Categories, contact details and hours are right, but the description is missing, there's a possible duplicate listing, no new photos lately, and recent reviews haven't been answered.

Assumptions

  • Your answers are the only input. Nothing connects to your Google account and nothing leaves your browser.
  • The checklist reflects BuzzBrain's view of common profile problems. It isn't Google's criteria, and Google doesn't endorse it.
  • Google changes its features and labels from time to time, so some wording may differ from what you see.
  • Five or more "Not sure" answers mark the score as provisional.
  • A higher score doesn't guarantee rankings, calls or sales. It shows common problems you can fix.

This check gives a BuzzBrain diagnostic score based only on your answers. It isn't a Google score, isn't endorsed by Google, and doesn't predict rankings, enquiries or sales.

FAQ

Google Business Profile questions. Answered.

Is this a Google score?

No. It's a BuzzBrain diagnostic score from our own checklist. Google doesn't publish a profile score and doesn't endorse this one.

Do I need to connect my Google account?

No. You answer the questions while looking at your own profile. Nothing connects to Google and your answers stay in your browser.

Will fixing these items improve my ranking?

We can't promise that, and nobody honestly can. The checklist finds common problems that can cost you calls, such as wrong hours, a missing description or unanswered reviews.

Why isn't my star rating scored?

Your rating matters to customers, but it isn't fully in your control. The check scores the things you can act on: getting recent reviews, replying to them and handling complaints well.

What counts as a duplicate listing?

Two or more Google listings for the same business, often from an old address, an old phone number or someone creating a second profile. Search your business name and phone number on Google Maps to find them.

How often should I check my profile?

A quick look each month keeps things current, and before every public holiday for special hours. Run the full check again after you make changes.
