How it's worked out

Four stages, each given a traffic light. There's no overall score, and weak spots are judged against your own site's numbers, not outside benchmarks.

  1. Set upGreen: verified and sitemap shows Success. Amber: sitemap errors or not sure. Red: not verified or no sitemap
  2. IndexedIndexed pages ÷ pages you expect. Green: 90% or more. Amber: 60 to 89%, or over 150%. Red: under 60%, or homepage not indexed
  3. Showing upGreen: impressions above zero and your business name search finds you. Amber: the name search doesn't. Red: no impressions
  4. Getting clicksClick-through rate = clicks ÷ impressions. Weak spot: at least 100 impressions, position 10 or better, and under half your site's own click-through rate
  5. Your next checksRed items first, then amber, in the order set up, indexed, showing up, clicks, mobile and recent changes

Average position blends every search you appeared for, so treat it as a trend, not a target.

Worked example

A plumber's website has 18 pages that should be in Google. Search Console shows 14 indexed, 5,400 impressions and 96 clicks over 3 months. Their hot water page and the search "emergency plumber" are seen often on page one but rarely clicked.

Two weak spots are flagged: the hot water page and "emergency plumber", both clicked less than half as often as the site overall.

Assumptions

  • Your numbers are the only input. Nothing connects to Google and nothing leaves your browser.
  • Use the last 3 months in the Performance report, so the numbers line up.
  • Report names match Google's labels at the time of writing. Google changes them from time to time.
  • Indexing takes time. New or changed pages can take days to weeks to appear.
  • The check finds likely problems. It doesn't guarantee rankings or traffic.

This check explains the numbers you enter from your own Search Console. It isn't a Google product, isn't endorsed by Google, and doesn't predict rankings, traffic or enquiries.

FAQ

Search Console Check questions. Answered.

What is Google Search Console?

A free tool from Google that shows how your website appears in Google Search: which pages are included, which searches show your site, and how often people click.

Do I need to give BuzzBrain access?

No. You copy a few numbers from your own Search Console. Nothing connects to Google, and nothing you enter leaves your browser.

Why are some of my pages not indexed?

Google lists a reason for each one in the Pages report. Some are normal, like redirects. Others, like pages blocked by a noindex tag, need fixing if you want them found. Tick the reasons you see and the check explains each one.

What's a good click-through rate?

It depends on position and the type of search, so a single benchmark can mislead. This check compares each page and search with your own site's average instead.

How long does Google take to show a new page?

It varies from days to weeks, and Google doesn't promise a timeframe. You can ask Google to index a page with URL Inspection.

What if my site isn't in Search Console yet?

Choose "No" at the first question and the check tells you how to start. Setting up Search Console is free.
